Abstract

|
The objective of this research was to investigate growth of plug seedling and physical properties of media containing the mixture of 1 peatmoss and 1 perlite by volume in Elsholtzia splendens cv. Jahyang, Campanula takesimana, and Aster hayatae as influenced by bottom watering. Soaking times of plug trays in bottom watering tank (BWT) were for 0, 10, 20, 30 min per day. Plug seedlings characteristics, such as plant height, width, fresh weight, and compactness of three species grown in BWT were improved as compared with those grown in overhead watering. Practically, optimal soaking time into BWT were 10 min in Elsholtzia splendens cv. Jahyang and Campanula takesimana, and 20 min in Aster hayatae. Three phase distributions of media used for growing plug seedling of Elshnltzia splendens cv. Jahyang and Campanula takesimana in BWT were changed into distributions having more gaseous phase and less water phase than those in overhead watering. However, water phase increased and gaseous phase decreased in Aster hayatae.
